Odotobri Rural Bank PLC has consistently awarded bursaries to brilliant but needy students as well as providing assistance to other Institutions in the Bank’s catchment areas.
One of the reasons the Bank delights in granting bursaries is to develop these young minds who would become future leaders in different capacities and contribute meaningfully to human life. As John Dewey once said “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. We have supported several industrious individuals emerging in the Bank’s catchment area, owing to its commitment to education and the consistent funding of education. The Bank received sixty-six (66) applications for 2023/2024 academic year, out of which fifty-eight (58) students were selected after a thorough vetting by the Scholarship Committee.
The selected beneficiaries are freshmen and continuing students from various Nursing and Teacher Training Colleges as well as Universities and are pursuing varied courses. A total of GH¢58,500.00 in bursaries is being awarded to these students.
Again, the Bank received a request for support letters from Bekwai and Obuasi branches of Cocobod appealing for Pruning Saws to support Cocoa Farmers in their Municipalities. The Board and Management considered their applications and approved twenty (20) pruning saws each for the two Municipalities valued at Ten Thousand Four Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢10,400.00) to support the pruning of Cocoa plants in their Municipalities.
Additionally, a request was received from Jacobu Ahenfie for the provision of dustbins for Jacobu Community. The Board and Management considered the application and approved twenty (20) dustbins valued at Nine Thousand Four Hundred and Fifty (GH¢9,450.00) to be placed at vantage points to improve the hygienic condition of the Jacobu Community.
Moreover, the Bank has approved an amount of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢5,000.00) for the Jacobu District Police Command to support the renovation of the Police Barracks. This donation was based on a request that was received from the District Commander.
Last but not least, an amount of Twelve Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty Six Ghana Cedis, Eighty Eight pesewas (GH¢12,736.88) has been approved by the Board and Management to re-wire the Science Laboratory of Jacobu Senior High / Technical School which had been destroyed by the heavy downpour which occurred on the 21st of April, 2024.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, Mr. Abraham Coffie in the company of the Directors, Management Members and Friends from the media presented the cheque of GH¢58,500.00 which was received by Mr. Simon Obeng, Assistant Headmaster, Administration, on behalf of the students.
